A woman has been charged in the death of a child left unattended in a vehicle, according to Chief David Lane of the City of Dillon Police Department.
On September 8, 2018, an unresponsive three-year-old child was brought into the emergency room of McLeod Medical Center. The child had been left unattended in a vehicle, and the emergency room staff attempted to revive the child but was unsuccessful.
Through the joint efforts of the Dillon Police Department, Dillon County Sheriff’s Department, and S.L.E.D., an individual has been arrested and charged with homicide by child abuse. Arrested was Ta’sarah Matthews, who is the child’s aunt.
