Every spring, Palmetto Pride and Keep South Carolina Beautiful, in partnership with Keep America Beautiful, Inc., coordinate the Great American Cleanup (a localized cleanup, beautification, and community improvement program). Palmetto Pride was created to engage people to take responsibility for their communities and eradicate little. The GAC kickoff began March 20, 2018 and runs through the end of May 2018. First Baptist Church Dillon, in coordination with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Department, participated in a community cleanup April 22, 2018. Twenty-two volunteers, both youth and adults, participated. Under the direction of Michael Sapp, Minister of Students, cleanup began with picking up trash on the grounds and around the track at Dillon Middle School. They then proceeded to Harmon Park on N 8th Ave where they cleaned flower beds, picked up trash and debris, and planted flowers. A total of 56 pounds of trash was collected. All citizens are urged to get involved by taking action to improve and beautify their communities. If your business, group, or organization would like to participate in a community cleanup, please contact Sheriff Major Hulon, 843-774-1432 or Sandra Turner 843-774-3292. Supplies for cleanup(s) are available to all interested in participating. Remember, littler trashes everyone. Let’s keep Dillon County clean.
