The Dillon Lady Wildcats suffered a 13-4 loss to Darlington on Tuesday, April 24, in Dillon on senior night in a varsity softball game.
Four Dillon seniors were honored prior to the game: A’Doshia Graves, Brandi Turner, Kursten Hopkins, and Emilee Price.
The Lady Wildcats got off to a good 3 up, 3 down start in the top of the first inning behind the pitching of Monasia Sowells.
Dillon’s lead-off hitter, A’Doshia Graves, hit a slow-moving grounder and was thrown out at first. Brandi Turner garnered a walk and moved to second on a passed ball. Emilee Price connected for a double to right center and a rbi. Jayla Jackson hit a hot one to the pitcher and was thrown out at first, and the runner advanced to third. Qyiesha Wilson popped foul to third to end the inning. Dillon now enjoyed a 1-0 lead. Darlington’s #38 garnered a walk to start the top of the second inning and advanced to second on a low pitch. #32 for Darlington arrived at base on an error and ended up on third before she stopped running and a run scored to knot the game at 1. #21 who dropped one over third for a single and a rbi. #10 for Darlington hit a grounder to second for out 2 and the runner advanced to third. Darlington’s #1 hit a fly ball to right that a good fielding catch ended the top of the second with Darlington up 2-1.
Dillon’s Kirstin Hopkins hit 1 up the middle for a single. Abby Bristow popped up to the shortstop for out 1. Hopkins advanced to second. On a passed ball Hopkins moved to third. Monasia Sowells hiit a grounder to the shortstop and picked up a rbi to tie the game at 2.
Darlington picked up 2 runs in the top of the third and managed to place 4 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth to go up 8-2.
In the bottom of the fourth inning Dillon’s Qyiesha Wilson hit 1 to deep left and managed to score to score in the bottom of the fourth to cut Darlington’s lead to 5.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dillon’s Monasia Sowells hit a grounder up the middle for a lead-off single. Sowells stole second base. Lexie Rogers hit 1 to the pitcheer and was safe at first and a run scored to cut the lead to 4. A good defensive catch of a line drive was made by the first baseman that accounted for out 2.
Darlington placed 3 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth and another 3 runs on the top of the seventh.
Dillon’s Coach Roller made many line-up changes in the game in an effort to slow Darlington.
Dillon will host a playoff game on Thursday.
