Mrs. Mary Anne Wilkes, 90, widow of the late John C. Wilkes, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Pruitt Health in Dillon after an illness.
Born in the Tatum Township of Marlboro County, SC, on November 26, 1927, she was the oldest of the late Lex Stewart and Fannie Stubbs Stewart. She was a Graduate of Clio High School and was a retired Lab Technician from Marlboro General Hospital. After retirement, she also worked for the medical office of Dr. Jim Moore in McColl, SC. She was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church and the W.M.U. and a member of the American Medical Technologists (AMT). She was an officer for the local AARP Chapter, was a very active member of the Dillon County Council on Aging, and ran the local voting polls in Minturn for many years. Her many hobbies included crocheting, and many of her shawls, doilies and afghans can be found in the homes of her many friends. She loved all people especially her church family. She also enjoyed working in her yard, planting flowers, and planting a garden. She loved baking for the sick people in the community. One of her favorite things to do was attending the weekly community meeting at David English’s Grocery in Clio.
Funeral services were held 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Little Rock Baptist Church with burial following in Riverside Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation washeld from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Wilkes Lamb (Lee) of Minturn; sister, Betty Knight (Dickie) of Sumter; a granddaughter, Karmen Heeg of Florence; step granddaughters, Clara Lamb of Frederick, MD and Annesia Lamb (K.C. Wang) Of Brooklyn, NY; twin great grandchildren, Adalynn Heeg and Karsten Heeg; and by her former son-in-law, Randy Steinberger of Florence; sister, Betty Knight of Sumter.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; and by brothers, Robert, Ernest, Monroe and Bill Stewart; and by sisters, Martha Wilkes and Fannie Lou Rutland.
