On Tuesday, March 13, 2018 just before 2:00 p.m. the Dillon County Fire Department Stations 1 and 5, Oakland Fire Department, Dillon County EMS and Dillon Rescue were dispatched to a structure fire on Harlee’s Bridge Road in Hamer with possible occupants in the residence, according to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival of emergency personnel, information was received from a family member that someone may be in the residence and during firefighting efforts and search a body was located inside the residence.
Coroner Donnie Grimsley confirms that a deceased person was found, but had not released the identity of the victim at press time. Update: Victim was Eliouse Brown.
The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, Dillon County Coroner’s Office and SLED are currently investigating the fire and death.
The Coroner has ordered an autopsy to be performed on the body. Firemen from the City of Dillon assisted the Dillon County Fire Department with the fire. The American Red Cross responded to the scene and is assisting the homeowner. Officers assisting at the scene and investigation were Investigators Reggie Thompson, Shannon Grainger, Allan Rogers and Deputies Ryan Bethea, Chad Dickerson and Kenneth Samuel.
