Latta Vikings Varsity Baseball Team Defeats East Clarendon
Behind the 3-hit pitching of Noah Henderson the Latta Vikings varsity baseball team closed the game over East Clarendon in 10-run fashion in 5 innings on a cold, windy evening in Latta.
Noah Henderson struck out 11 and walked only 1 batter to capture the win.
Although Latta faced 3 pitchers during the game, J. Evans was tagged with the loss. He pitched 1.2 innings and allowed 2 hits, struck out 2, walked 1, and allowed 1 run in one and two-thirds innings.
K. Odom also pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 6 hits, walked 1, struck out 6, and allowed 6 earned runs. M. Floyd pitched 1.2 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 3, struck out 1, and allowed 4 runs of which 2 were earned. Latta scored a run in the bottom of the first inning when Russ Rogers grounded out that would prove to be the only scoring that the Latta Vikings would need for the win. Latta placed 4 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning, 4 in the bottom of the fourth inning, and 1 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Latta managed 10 hits in the game.
Latta’s Kody Anderson connected for a single and a double in 3 at-bats while picking up 4 rbi and also scoring a run. Deonte Stanley managed 2 singles in 4 at-bats and scored 3 runs. Jordan Hayes doubled, picked up 2 rbi, and scored a run in his 3 at-bats while Hunter Sawyer singled and picked up a rbi in his 3 trips to the plate. Russ Rogers singled, picked up a rbi, and scored 2 runs. McLeod Carmichael doubled and scored a run in his 4 at-bats. Chandler Matthews singled and scored a run in his 4 trips to the plate while Noah Henderson singled in his 2 at-bats.
East Clarendon’s A. Mixon connected for a double in his 2 at-bats while C. Cook singled in his 2 trips to the plate. M. Coker also singled in his 3 at-bats.
Latta committed 1 error, and East Clarendon was guilty of 3 errors.
Latta will host Carvers Bay tonight, Thursday, March 15, at 6:00 p.m.
Dillon Lady Wildcats Hands Lake City 19-0 Loss On March 13th
The Dillon Lady Wildcats handed Lake City a 19-0 loss in 4 innings in a varsity softball game played in Lake City on Tuesday, March 13.
Dillon got on the scoreboard with 6 runs in the first inning, 3 in the second inning, 8 in the third inning, and 2 in the fourth inning.
Dillon managed 14 hits in the game while holding Lake City to only 2 hits.
Dillon’s Skyler McCoy connected for a home run, a single, and 6 rbi in her 2 at-bats while Qyasia Wilson also connected for a home run and 2 rbi in her 2 trips to the plate. Nyasia Wilson was perfect at the plate with a double and a single in her 2 at-bats for the Lady ‘Cats. A’Doshia Graves connected for 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate while Monasia Sowells had 2 hits in 3 at-bats.
Monasia Sowells picked up the win for Dillon. She pitched 2 innings, gave up 2 hits, struck out 1, did not walk anyone, and did not allow any runs.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats did not commit an error in the game while Lake City was guilty of 5 errors.
Dillon will host Loris at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 16.
Dillon Lady Wildcats Get 5-3 Win Over EC
The Dillon Lady Wildcats returned home Friday, March 9, from Turbeville with a 5-3 win over East Clarendon in varsity softball.
The Lady ‘Cats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning. East Claendon fought back and placed a run on the scoreboard to close the gap to only 2 runs.
Neither team could muster any scoring until East Clarendon placed a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut Dillon’s lead to 1 run.
In the top of the seventh inning, Monasia Sowells, Dillon’s winning pitcher, helped her cause with a double to left picking up 2 rbi when Abby Bristow scored from second and Kirstin Hopkins scored from third to give Dillon a 5-2 lead.
East Clarendon added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Monasia Sowells pitched the entire 7-inning game and allowed 6 hits, 3 runs of which only 1 was earned, walked 1, and struck out 3 for the win.
Marleigh Floyd also pitched the entire game and was tabbed with the loss. She allowed 6 hits, 5 runs of which only 2 were earned, walked no one, and struck out 2.
Dillon’s Jayla Goodwin doubled and picked up 2 rbi in her 3 at-bats while Abby Bristow also doubled in her 2 trips to the plate.
East Clarendon’s Gracen Watts doubled and picked up 2 rbi in her 4 trips to the plate while Caitlin Timmons doubled, singled, and picked up a rbi in her 4 at-bats.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats were at Latta on Monday, March 12, and will travel to Lake City today, March 13, at 6:30 p.m.
