Mr. David Hyatt, 86, passed away peacefully at Pruitt Health-Dillon, on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 after an illness.
David was born in the Floyd Dale Community of Dillon, County, SC, on March 5, 1931, a son of the late Sherman Hyatt and Annie Hulon Hyatt. He was married to the love of his life, the late Estelle Byrd Hyatt of Clio, SC, for 48 years. Together they helped raise two nephews, Jimmy and Bobby Tunstall. He retired from The Mid-Atlantic Carpentry Union with 20 + years of dedicated service and worked for the Naval Shipyard in Newport News, Virginia, before moving back to Floyd Dale, SC, in 2004. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in Alaska from 1951-1953. He was preceded in death by his brother S.A., who was killed in combat during the Korean Conflict. He loved animals, fishing, singing and talking with his many friends. When he was able he attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Margaret (Tom) Rowland of Dillon; also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors, will follow in Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery, directed by Cooper Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Hyatt was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above; brothers, Benny, Alton, S.A., J.W. Snout and Herbert Hyatt; and by sisters, Thelma Webster and Lucille Tunstall.
The family would like to thank Hospice, and the care givers of Pruitt Health-Dillon, especially Mrs. Carrie and Mrs. Paula.
