DURHAM – Mary Pridgen Zedick finished her earthly pilgrimage on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Duke University Hospital. She is the daughter of Paul M. Pridgen and Marie Green Pridgen of North Charleston, SC.
Mary was a gifted vocalist performing in church music ministries as well as related venues. While a student at North Charleston High School, she won a number one rating as soprano soloist from Winthrop College in a statewide high school music contest. She was a member and sang with the Furman University Singers in Greenville, SC for two years.
As a faithful pastor’s wife, Mary served in positions of ministry along with her husband at Durbin Creek Baptist Church and Bethany Baptist, Fountain Inn, SC; Middlesex Baptist Church, Middlesex, NC; Bailey Baptist Church, Bailey, NC; Selma Baptist Church, Selma, NC; First Baptist Church, Dillon, SC; and Grace Baptist Church, Durham, NC.
While in SC, Mary served on the General Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention; she also served on committees and study groups in her local association as well as the State Convention. She also served in missions with her husband, Rev. Frank Zedick, under the direction of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Rome, Italy, Budapest; Hungary, Kiev and L’viv Ukraine.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Frank Zedick, her brother, Rev. Paul M. Pridgen, Jr., and her sister, Betty P. Holland. Mary is survived by her son, Rev. Frank Ron Zedick and wife, Gail of Durham; daughters, Susan Z. Pittard and husband, Karl of Wahalla, SC; Paula Z. Matthis and husband, Steve of Clinton; and Mary Frances Z. Fowler and husband, Jerry of Durham; her grandchildren, Neil Fowler, Christa Fowler, Allison Lache Z. Filyaw, Mary Kathrine Z. Strother, Marie Matthis Smith, (Major) James Zeke Pittard and Dr. Karl Ashley Pittard; and her great grandchildren, Charlotte Strother, Briggs Filyaw, Luzia Filyaw, Abbigail Smith, Benjamin Pittard, Sarah Pittard and Grace Pittard.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Bahama Baptist Church with Rev. Wes McMurry and Rev. Frank Ronald Zedick officiating. Burial will follow 11:00AM Friday, November 17, 2017 at Riverview Memorial Park, North Charleston, SC.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00PM, Thursday, November 16, 2017 one hour prior to the service at Bahama Baptist Church or on Wednesday at Mary’s home from noon until 7pm.
