Several matters were discussed at the September meeting of the Dillon City Council.
In the mayor’s report, Mayor Todd Davis:
– talked about the preparations that the city had made when they thought Hurricane Irma may be heading our way.
– said a representative from Love’s visited about a hotel. There is an interest in putting a hotel here.
– said he met with Dillon District Four and Coastal Carolina University about housing for teachers.
– discussed I-73.
In the City Manager’s report, City Manager Glen Wagner:
– said the city needed to start advertising for a full-time or part-time person to work on grants for downtown. The person would help businesses with grants and with special events. The individual would need to be personable and have marketing experience. Wagner said they would need to hire someone before the first of the year.
– discussed storm drains and the issues the city has. At least two new employees would be needed and a Vactor truck. The city has approximately 30-40 miles of storm drains.
– said the city received a grant in June/July to replace the gym floor at the Wellness Center. The cost to replace the floor is $84,000 with $70,000 coming from the grant. The balance will be paid from the quality of life money. It is a rubberized floor with a 15-year warranty.
In other business, the council:
– passed the final reading of ordinance 17-08 to amend the zoning map for the Jennifer Hardwick property at 401 East Wilson Street from a B-4 to an R-7.
– passed the first reading of Ordinance #17-09 prohibiting and excluding two-family dwellings (duplexes) and multi-family dwellings as permitted uses within the designated residential boundaries of the Historic Overlay District. Motion was made by Councilman Phil Wallace, seconded by Councilman John Braddy and passed unanimously.
– passed the first reading of Ordinance #17-10 to annex the property at 1204 N. 1st Avenue owned by R & R Acquisitions into the city limits. This was the old McCutcheon Hardware store. Motion made by Councilman Wallace, seconded by Councilman Douglas Jackson and passed unanimously.
