Gary Pierce of CareSouth and Laura Ketter of Vantage Point were the guest speakers at the Dillon County Local Emergency Planning Commission meeting on Thursday, September 28th.
Gary Pierce said CareSouth is a community health center that serves people in rural areas with their healthcare needs.
CareSouth is not a free clinic. It provides primary healthcare for the uninsured, underinsured, and insured on a sliding fee scale. They have their own pharmacy and mobile medical services. They also have a dental program in Dillon.
Pierce noted that Dillon County was the fourth unhealthiest county in South Carolina.
Laura Ketter of Vantage Point is the regional nutrition program coordinator for the Area Agency on Aging and works under the auspices of CareSouth Carolina. She is also the risk officer, where she is one of the three contacts for the Lieutenant Governor’s Office and is a certified National Weather Service weather spotter. She said at Vantage Point they do their best to solve problems.
Among the services offered by the Area Agency on Aging are transportation, group dining, home-delivered meals, health promotion, home care, and legal services.
Also offered by Vantage Point are information, referral, and assistance services; medicare information services; the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program; and the Family Caregiver Support Program.
After her presentation, Ketter gave out door prizes.
The next meeting of the group is November 16th.
