SCISA state champion Dillon Christian School Warriors claimed a 28-16 win over the Dorchester Academy Raiders in the season opener held in Dillon on Friday, August 18.
With 9:34 remaining in the first quarter, Montez Alford scampered 56 yards to put the Warriors on the scoreboard. The PAT by Gage Bazemore was good. The Warriors’ Diaz Alexander scored from the 1-yard line with 2:12 left on the scoreboard in the first period, and Dillon Christian School led by 13 points. Bazemore’s PAT was good. Neither team placed any points on the scoreboard in the second quarter.
Dorchester Academy’s first points of the game came with 4:49 remaining in the third quarter on a 16-yard pass to Ben Murray from Lance Brownlee. With 2:39 left in the third quarter, the Dillon Christian School Warriors added 6 points on a 5-yard run by Garrett Collins. Bazemore’s PAT was good.
The Raiders added 6 points in the fourth quarter with 8:47 remaining on a 9-yard pass from Brownlee to Colby Weeks. The 2-point conversion was good by Brownlee. With only 1:18 remaining on the clock, Diaz Alexander carried the ball in from the 3-yard line for the Warriors. Once again, Bazemore’s PAT was good.
The Warriors’ Diaz Alexander rushed for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game while Garrett Collins rushed for a touchdown and had 12 solo tackles. Montez Alford pulled in 8 passes for 118 yards for Dillon Christian School while Diaz Alexander threw for 140 yards on 11 completed passes. The Dillon Christian School Warriors will travel to Trinity-Byrnes on Friday, August 25, for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
