GEORGETOWN—Latta native, Tangie McFee, competing with a Mid-Carolina Ladies shooting team won first place in the Varsity Ladies division of the National Junior US Open Sporting Clay tournament held at the beautiful grounds of BackWoods Quail Club in Georgetown, South Carolina. The three day event was open to any youth teams including Rookie through Collegiate divisions. Squads were composed of three members whose scores were combined for team totals. Teams could be all male, mixed or all female.
Teams from as far away as Texas, came to compete, Tangie was competing on an all-female, “Varsity Ladies Squad’. Her team was sponsored by 4-H Mid-Carolina Gun Club out of Orangeburg, SC. Her team mates were Jessica Knox and Madison Sharpe.
The team opened with a strong lead on Saturday by shooting a combined score of 255 out to 300. The individual scores for Saturday were Tangie, 82, Jessica 86, and Madison, 87. They were followed by Graystone Marksmanship with a total of 234 and Calhoun Sporting Clays with a total of 230
Tangies squad ended Sunday with a total score of 502 broken targets out or 600 to claim 1st Place. Sunday’s individual scores were Tangie, 82, Jessica 83 and Madison, 82; Second Place went to Graystone Marksmanship with 480 and Lawrence Manning Academy placed third by overtaking Calhoun Sporting Clays who fell to Fourth Place.
In addition to the youth competition, a special event was held for Team Coaches. Bill Aston, Head Coach of Dillon County 4-H, came in 6th place out of 60 competitors in this event by breaking 68 of 80 targets.
