Dear Editor:
Thank you for your excellent editorial “More Than Just a Pathway,” which appeared in the June 22nd edition of The Dillon Herald.
There are many of us who for years have requested what I am about to state: the best solution for Dillon County and the most economically sound approach would be to make Highway 9 four lanes from Green Sea to I-95 in Dillon. The present four-lane portion connects to Highway 31 (a four lane road) in North Myrtle Beach which gives quick access to those desiring to go further south.
Already major upgrades have appeared on the four-lane portion of Highway 9 in Horry County. In addition, the completion of Highway 9’s four lanes to I-95 in Dillon would result in an economic boost for Dillon County.
If and when I-73 is ever funded, our area would still have a viable alternative for quick beach access (or exit in case of a storm) via a fully four-lane Highway 9.
I would encourage anyone interested in this solution to contact local and state officials and request their immediate attention to this proposal.
Sincerely,
Tommy Samaha
