The Dillon County Council for the Aging held their annual meeting on May 16th. Executive Director Joni Spivey called the meeting to order welcoming everyone to the annual meeting.
Chairperson Bobby McLean opened the meeting with prayer.
Jessica K. Bracey entertained with two beautiful songs.
Joni gave the nominees who will be serving for another year.
They are: Bobby McLean, Judy Sanderson, Rev. Joseph Graham, Dorothy Bethea, Glenda Campbell, Katie Paul, Mary Wilkes, and Geri Sellers (new member).
All board members have agreed to serve another one-year term on the COA board for the coming year 2017-2018.
Ms. Brenda Bucy made the motion to accept the board members for coming year 2017-2018. Mr. Eugene McLellan seconded the motion. All clients agreed on the board members.
Joni recognized the board members with a gift for this past year’s dedication.
Joni turned the meeting over to the guest speaker, Ms. Danielle Mason.
Ms. Mason is employed with Vantage Point Care South in Hartsville. Her job position is Assessment Coordinator. She will be handling the assessments of all clients and referrals for the coming fiscal year 2017.
She will also be responsible for the reassessments of clients as a follow up.
Ms. Mason spoke about seniors knowing their Medicare rights and detecting fraud and how to report it. Open enrollment for Plan D is October 15-December 7. One is allowed during this time to make changes to your prescription plan. Ms. Mason handed out information of these topics to the clients.
Joni recognized the volunteers of the Council on Aging. They included: Millia Alford, Daisy Bullock, Edith Inman, Mary Carmichael, Roger Luce, Eugene McLellan, Annie Grice, Essie Moultrie, Jessie Scarver, Barbara Seller, Sarah Thompson, Caryn Proctor, Joyce Ford, and Katie Manning.
They each received a gift with a certificate of thanks for volunteering.
Joni acknowledged with a gift the Oldest Male Senior – Mr. Bob Stopp and the Oldest Female Senior – Ms. Ethel McRae.
Joni told the board members that on June 5th, COA would be issuing Farmers Market Vouchers to the seniors of Dillon County.
Joni asked Rev. Joseph Graham to pray for the blessing of our food. Lunch was served.
