The Latta Junior American Legion baseball team defeated Marion 13-2 in 5 innings in a game played in Latta on Wednesday, June 14.
Latta’s Jackson Powers pitched 4 and 1/3 innings to claim the win. He allowed 6 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 1, and struck out 5. Peyton Britt was tagged with the loss for Marion. He pitched 3 innings and allowed 10 hits, 8 runs of which 4 were earned, walked no one, and struck out 2. Marion placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning.
Latta scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed again while placing 2 runs in the top of the third inning and 8 runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Latta managed 11 hits while holding Marion to 7.
Marion was guilty of 4 errors while Latta did not commit any. Marion’s Peyton Britt was perfect with 3 hits including a double in 3 at-bats while Dawson Hunsucker was 2-for-2 including a triple and 2 rbi.
John Malcolm George connected for 2 hits including a double in his 2 at-bats for Latta while Hunter Sawyer was 2-for-2 with 2 rbi. Chandler Matthews connected for 2 hits including a double and a rbi in 3 at-bats. Jackson Powers also picked up a rbi and a double in 2 at-bats.
Latta hosted Wilson on Monday, June 19.
