Harbor Freight Tools and the Town of Latta re-dedicated the Henry Street Park in Latta, following extensive renovation and improvement.
Named after former Mayor John E. Henry, the park is an important recreational center in the community that over the years has fallen into disrepair.
The newly completed renovations, a gift of Harbor Freight Tools, include over $600,000 in improvements.
Users of the park will now benefit from new and updated features including basketball courts, a softball field, bleachers, a scoreboard, a children’s playground, a walking track, refurbished concession building and restrooms, and a resurfaced parking lot.
Harbor Freight Tools is the largest employer in Dillon County.
Eric Smidt, the company’s CEO and founder, explained the importance of the Henry Street Park renovations, “We’re proud to support our Dillon County community and want to re-dedicate Henry Street Park to the hardworking people of Dillon County. It is our hope that the park will strengthen the community and bring enjoyment to all for years to come.”
Jarret Taylor, Latta Town Administrator, expressed the significance of the gift to the community, “For years, Henry Street Park has needed upgrades that have been unavailable due to various constraints and financial reasons. Harbor Freight Tools’ commitment to our town serves as a corporate beacon of community responsibility that will echo in our community for generations to come.”
Parker Ammons led off the ceremony with the singing of the Nationl Anthem followed by Jarett Taylor, who offered comments.
Allan Mutchnik, Harbor Freight’s Chief Administrative Officer, who is celebrating their 40th anniversary in business, said that 135 Harbor Freight employees and their families live within three miles of the park. He said he hoped that the park would continue to be a place to play, meet friends, and celebrate today and for many years to come.
Robby Roberson, Vice-President of East Coast Distribution, also spoke saying that he hoped the residents would enjoy the park and remember the days spent here.
After remarks, the ribbon was cut on the park. A softball game was also held with Roberson throwing out the first pitch.
