The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors defeated the Marlboro Academy Dragons 29-24 in a low-scoring game played in Dillon on Friday, January 20.
After the first period of play the Warriors were up 8-4. At halftime the lead was 4 as Dillon Christian School was up 11-7. After 3 periods of play the Warriors lead was up to 7 points, 19-12.
The Dragons controlled the tip-off but were unable to score on the first possession.
The Warriors’ Lizzie Outlar scored the first 2 points of the game on a lay-up followed by Anna Thompson who sank 1 for 2 points. Sarah Stone hit a basket for 2 points for the Dillon Christian School Warriors, and the Warriors were up 6-0 before #24 for Marlboro Academy could put the Dragons on the board with 2 free throws.
The Warriors’ Lizzie Outlar again drove to the basket and connected on another layout for 2 points.
The Dragons’ #15 connected for a 2-point basket for the last points of the first period.
#5 for Marlboro Academy sank the first basket of the second period to close the gap to only a 2-point lead for Dillon Christian.
The Warriors’ Sarah Freeman sank and basket for 2 points and was fouled. She completed the 3-point play with a free throw.
Sarah Stone, #1 for the Warriors, sank 1 of 2 free throws to give Dillon Christian a 4-point halftime lead in the low-scoring game.
The Dragons’ cheerleaders entertained the fans at halftime.
#22 for Marlboro sank a basket early in the third period to cut Dillon’s lead to only 2.
Anna Thompson sank 2 baskets in a row for the Warriors.
#5 for Marlboro connected on 1 of 2 free throws, and #3 for Marlboro also connected for 1 of 2 baskets to once again cut the lead to 4 points, 15-11.
Sam Carpenter connected for 2 points for the Warriors before #24 for Marlboro made 1 of 2 free throws.
The Warriors’ Sarah Stone connected for 2 points to give Dillon a 19-12 lead.
In the final period of play the Dragons’ #13 sank 1 for 3 points. Lizzie Outlar connected for 2 points for the Warriors before #22 for Marlboro hit 1 for 2.
Anna Brown converted a 3-point play the “old fashioned” way by sinking a 2-point basket and hitting the free throw for the Warriors.
#24 for Marlboro again connected on 2 free throws while Anna Brown sank 1 of 2 free throws. It was now #15 for the Dragons who connected for 1 of 2 free throws. Dillon’s Sarah Freeman sank 1 of 2 free throws. At this point in the game Dillon was up by 6 points, 26-20.
#13 for Marlboro hit a long 3, and #3 for the Dragons sank 1 of 2 free throws.
Lizzie Outlar scored the final 2 points of the game for the Warriors.
Dillon Christian School travels to King’s Academy today (Tuesday, January 24).
