The Dillon 11- and 12-year olds defeated Mount Pleasant 26-0 in Dillon on Saturday, Dec. 10, to capture the Lower State Championship.
Dillon took the opening kick-off.
On the first series of offensive plays, Dillon’s #28 fumbled, and Mount Pleasant recovered.
#4 for Mount Pleasant quickly picked up a first down. He carried again on the next play and picked up 4 yards before #32 for Mount Pleasant picked up another first down. #4 carried again.  Mount Pleasant picked up another first on a completed pass to #36. #4 carried again. It appeared as Mount Pleasant had the momentum and was going to score.  However, Dillon’s defense came alive and stopped Mount Pleasant on fourth down.
Dillon was determined this time as #2 for Dillon picked up 1 yard on first down, 5 yards on second down, 3 yards on third down, and then picked up a first down before scoring from 79 yards out.
Dillon led 6-0 with 56 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The 2-point conversion failed.
#4 for Mount Pleasant fumbled, and Dillon’s #2 grabbed the ball and ran.
After a few offensive plays for Dillon, #2 again scored.
#20 for Dillon carried the ball in for the 2-point conversion.
Dillon’s lead was now 14-0 with 2:02 remaining in the first half.
At halftime Dillon was ahead 14-0.
The Dillon cheerleaders entertained at halftime.
After Dillon held Mount Pleasant on the first series of offensive plays in the second half, Dillon took over.
#2 carried for a 56-yard touchdown that was called back. However, 3 plays later #2 for Dillon scored from 62 yards out. The 2-point conversion failed but Dillon was up 20-0 with 3:19 remaining in the third quarter.
Dillon’s #2 scored the final points of the game from 2 yards out with 3:12 remaining in the game.
The final score was Dillon 26 and Mount Pleasant 0.
#2 for Dillon picked up 187 yards in the game that was attributed to his offensive linemen and his good running skills.
