In late September, West Rock announced that it was ceasing operations at the facility by the end of November and closing the plant by December 31st.
Dillon County Economic Development Director Tonny McNeil said they have a three-step plan to assist the employees.
“We’re sorry for the loss of the employees who have been laid off,” said McNeil. He said he appreciates the business West Rock has brought over the years.
McNeil said their goal to involve the different partners and try to get these employees back to work as soon as possible. He said they will have a hiring event in the near future for West Rock employees.
McNeil said those who are not hired will be assisted by trying to get them into a training program for jobs that exist or jobs that may be coming in relation to the inland port.
McNeil said they will also reach out to the leadership at West Rock to help them market the building to prospective industries and hopefully get it filled by the end of the year.
