The Latta Vikings defeated the Johnsonville Flashes 48-29 in varsity football action on Friday, Nov. 11, in Johsonville.
Johnsonville got on the scoreboard first with a 22-yard run by Devonte Mack, and Jim Cagle’s PAT was good to give Johnsonville a 7-0 lead with 5:10 remaining in the first quarter.
However, Latta scored 68 seconds later on a 23-yard pass from Dylan Carter to Davonta Porter. Davonta Porter converted the 2-point run, also to give Latta a one-point lead.
Johsonville’s Tyrique Palmer scored on a 1-yard run and Devonte Mack added the 2-point run with 8:16 remaining in the second quarter to give Johnsonville the lead.
Kendall Moultrie picked up 6 points for Latta a 24-yard pass from Dylan Carter, and Davonta Porter rushed for the 2-point conversion with 4:50 remaining before the half.
The Latta Vikings quickly got on the scoreboard withi 10:21 remaining in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Davonta Porter. Jamarcus Legette added 2 points after the touchdown on a rush.
Johnsonville scored with 8:08 remaining in the third quarter on a 30-yard pass from Jim Cagle to Devonte Mack. The 2-point run failed.
With 7:53 remaining in the third quarter Ontario McClellan scored a touchdown on a 65-yard run, and Davonta Porter rushed for the 2 points afterwards.
Latta’s Gage Sanderson returned a punt for 68 yards and a Latta touchdown. Jamarcus Legette converted the 2-point attempt with 4:00 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Johnsonville picked up a team safety with 54 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Johnsonville scored with 7:57 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard run by Devonte Mack. The 2-point pass attempt failed.
Latta placed the last points of the game with 6:48 remaining on a 2-yard run by Davonta Porter. Marcus Legette rushed for the 2 points.
The final score was Latta 48 and Johnsonville 29.
The Vikings’ Dylan Carter completed 12 of 13 passes for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Latta’s Davonta Porter caught 3 passes for 63 yards and 1 touchdown and carried the football on 8 rushes for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns plus had 9 tackles on the night.
Kendall Moultrie was on the receiving end of 5 passes for 53 yards and 1 touchdown and also had 2 tackles for the Vikings.
Deonta Stanley had 4 catches for 33 yards and also had 5 tackles for Latta.
Ontario McClellan picked up 89 yards and 1 touchdown on 2 rushes for the Vikings.
Brandon Hayes picked up 36 yards on 3 rushes while Jamarcus Leggette also carried the football 3 times for 9 yards and had 1 tackle for the Vikings.
On defense for the Vikings Mikey Dotson had 10 tackles and 1 FF while Chandler Matthews added 10 tackles.
Jalen Gomillion had 7 tackles, and Tevin Dimmery had 4 tackles and 1 sack for Latta.
Hayden Graham and Dylan Carter each contributed 3 tackles while Trey Manning, Trey Anderson, and Justin Hall each had 2 tackles for the Vikings.
Jay Bailey also contributed 1 tackle for the Vikings.
The Latta Vikings will travel to Calhoun County on Friday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
