In the past couple of weeks since the hurricane, we have all seen so many people step up to the plate to help serve the community and restore some normalcy to the lives of those affected by the storm. We have seen law enforcement, first responders, disaster preparedness officials, Red Cross workers, and many others very visible in our community.
As you may have noticed in the past few issues of The Dillon Herald and will continue to see in some of our upcoming issues, the church has been a very prominent part of the recovery efforts not only in our own community, but in aiding surrounding communities. We have been pleased to share their stories and will continue to share them as we receive them.
In a time where church attendance is said to be falling off and the church is said to be less of a factor in the daily lives of many, the churches in Dillon County have proved just the opposite and this has never been more obvious than after this hurricane.
The churches literally served as a lifeline providing food for the hungry and others in need; providing water; providing clothing; and providing the basic needs of life for many.
The churches really showed how much they care about the community and that they were willing to serve as needed.
Thousands of people in Dillon County and our neighboring Town of Rowland received needed service from the churches.
It is also important to recognize the S.C. Baptist Disaster Relief. They have also been a prominent part of the recovery efforts providing flood recovery classes and tree removal.
Our churches are a strong and vital part of our county and our community, and their efforts are worthy of note.
