While most people were concerned with Hurricane Matthew and the aftermath, some people had other things in mind.
The following is a compilation of incident reports from the City of Dillon Police Department regarding break-ins and thefts in the City of Dillon from the date of Hurricane Matthew through October 18th.
Oct. 8-17: According to a report by Cpl. Ronald Graham, someone entered Floral Occasions on South First Avenue in Dillon and took two battery-operated cameras. The cameras were there when they closed for Hurricane Matthew, but the victim noticed they were missing on Oct. 17. The suspects had entered through the front door.
Oct. 9: According to a report by PFC Cody James Martin, someone attempted to break into Rick’s Pawn Shop at 506 Radford Boulevard, Dillon. The complainant said that someone pried the seal off the window and then tried to pry open the back door of the business.
Oct. 9: According to a report by Sgt. Ray McPhatter, officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart on Enterprise Road due to an activated alarm on the firearms case. As officers responded, an employee in the store called 9-1-1 to report that a glass break was heard and the alarm sounded. A total of eight firearms including five rifles and three shot guns were taken.
Oct. 9: According to a report by Cpl. Ronald Graham, someone tried to break into a residence on North Fifth Avenue. They had kicked in the front door and left through the back door. Nothing appeared to be missing.
Oct. 9: According to a report by Sgt. Melvin Lee, a woman reported that her apartment on McKenzie Road had been broken into. She had left during the hurricane, and when she returned her window was open and her 32” Emerson television was gone.
Oct. 9: According to a report by Sgt. Melvin Lee, someone broke into Flava Flava on West Main Street during Hurricane Matthew. The front door of the business was broken into and three X-boxes, a vest, shorts, female outfits, and some grills were taken.
Oct. 9: According to a report by Sgt. Melvin Lee, someone broke into a home on West Calhoun Street in Dillon. The victim had left her home during Hurricane Matthew. Someone kicked in the back door and took a laptop, pink flower case, clothes, sneakers, a tablet, and a 32 inch television.
Oct. 9-10: According to a report by Cpl. Austin Grice, Sarah’s Tobacco on South First Avenue was burglarized. The front door had been pried open and the lock was cut. The suspects attempted to break into an ATM at the business, but were unsuccessful.
Oct. 10: According to a report by Cpl. Ronald Graham, someone shattered the front glass on the J.B. Jewelry shop. Missing were some gold filled chains and sterling silver rings.
Oct. 10: According to a report by Cpl. Ronald Graham, someone tried to pry open the back door to the storage room at the Tavern on West Main Street. The complainant saw a black male wearing a black hoodie and black pants was seen coming from the back of the location.
Oct. 10: According to a report by Captain Ryan Berry, someone reported to the police department that a 2000 Predator red generator had been stolen from his home on North 24th Avenue. The victim was using the generator due to Hurricane Matthew.
Oct. 11-12: According to a report by Sgt. Ray McPhatter, someone attempted to burglarize Main Street Pawn and Gun on West Main Street. The lock was removed from the gate at the back door. The suspect had attempted to kick the door open and beat the door knob off the door.
Oct. 12: According to a report by Cpl. Lorie Tyler and Sgt. Michael Yoder, Oct. 12, a male was seen by an officer walking away from Jerry Allen’s Hardware. The front door appeared to have been pried open. The suspect had on dark clothing and a hoodie and walked in the direction of Allen’s Apartments.
Oct. 13: According to a report by PFC Jordan Upton, someone stole a generator from a home on North 12th Avenue in Dillon. The generator was a red 40 watt Predator. It had been sitting near the back porch and was drug away.
Oct. 15: According to a report by Sgt. Joshua Kasson, a tag was stolen from a vehicle on West Calhoun Street. The tag was entered into NCIC as stolen.
