The Latta Vikings defeated the Kingstree Jaguars 49-18 in varsity football action in Latta on Friday, September 16.
The Latta Vikings kicked off to the Kingstree Jaguars to begin the game.
The Jaguars were forced to punt after not being able to pick up a first down.
The Vikings took over after the punt on Latta’s own 43-yard line.
Latta’s Davonta Porter picked up a first down on a catch that he managed to carry to Kingstree’s 37-yard line. Ontario McClellan for Latta carried for a gain, and Dylan Brewer connected with Kendall Moultrie for a first down on Kingstree’s 21-yard line.
Latta’s Davonta Porter scored the first points of the game after catching a pass. The PAT was good by Chase Hester, and Latta led 7-0 with 8:26 left in the first quarter.
Kingstree’s quarterback picked up great yardage and ended on Latta’s 15-yard line. The Jaguars’ #11 carried to Latta’s 1-yard line, and Kingstree’s quarterback carried it in for 6. A 2-point pass attempt failed. Latta led 7-6 with 7:-5 remaining in the first quarter.
On the next series of plays Latta’s Kendall Moultrie carried one in for 6 but the score was called back due to a flag. Dylan Brewer threw a incomplete pass to Moultrie and another to #8 before connecting with Devonte Stanley who added 6 points to Latta’s total.The 2-point pass attempt failed.  Latta led 14-6 with 4:41 remaining in the first quarter.
On Kingstree’s second down on the the next series the Jaguars’ quarterback tossed one that was picked off by Latta’s Devonte Stanley who carried it in for a touchdown. The PAT was no good.  Latta led 19-6 with 3:54 remaining in the first quarter.
Kingstree’s quarterback was chased out of the pocket and carried one to Latta’s 22-yard line. After Kingstree was unable to get the offense going, Latta took over on their own 28-yard line. After a couple of good runs by Latta’s Ontario McClellan  Dylan Brewer tossed a touchdown pass to Latta’s Kendall Moultrie. Devonta Porter carried the 2-point conversion in and Latta led 27-6 with 1:11 remaining in the first quarter.
After a long first quarter that was plagued with penalties Latta led 27-6. Kingstree began the second quarter moving the ball either by good plays or penalties before Latta’s Kendall Moultrie intercepted one to stop the treat. However, Latta was unable to move the ball and was forced to punt.
Kingstree managed to move the ball on the next series of plays. However, Latta was once again able to stop the momentum and took over on downs.
Chandler Nolan scored the next points for Latta with 46.3 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Devonta Porter carried the ball in on the 2-point conversion.  Latta’s lead was 35-6.
The first half ended on a fumble by #11 for Kingstree.
Latta was on the receiving end of the first kick-off of the second half. However, Latta’s Kendall Moultrie was picked off by #10 for Kingstree.

Latta faked a punt on fourth down, and Latta’s Chandler Nolan  picked up a first down. Devonte Stanley was on the receiving end of a pass by Dylan Brewer and managed to score with 2:56 remaining in the third quarter. Latta’s Chase Hester kicked the extra point through the uprights to give Latta a 42-6 lead.
Latta’s kick-off hit a Kingstree player, and Latta recovered the ball on Kingstree’s 35-yard line. Dylan Brewer tossed one to Kendall Moultrie for 6 points. Latta now had a commanding lead 48-6 with 1:25 remaining in the third quarter. The PAT was good.  Latta now led 49-6.
After 3 quarters of play Latta led 49-6. Kingstree’s #10 returned a punt for a touchdown to give Kingstree 12 points on the board. The 2-point conversion failed, and the score was 49-12 in favor of Latta with 5:30 remaining in the game. Kingstree managed to score another 6 points towards the end of the game.
Latta’s Dylan Brewer completed 13 of 22 passes for 239 yards and 5 touchdowns with 1 interception.
Devonta Porter caught 6 passes for 79 yards and one touchdown for the Vikings while Kendall Moultrie caught 4 passes for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns. Devonte Stanley caught 3 passes for 42 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Latta’s Ontario McClellan picked up 83 yards on 16 rushes. Chandler Nolan had 8 tackles and 1 sack while Devonta Porter had 8 tackles and Mikey Dotson had 5 tackles, 1 sack, and a fumble recovery for the Vikings. Jay Bailey added 4 tackles for the Vikings, and Deonte Stanley had 1 interception. Kendall Moultrie was able to pick off 2, and Trey Manning also had 2 tackles in the Latta victory.
