In the first meeting between the two teams the Dillon Christian School Warriors defeated the Greenwood Christian School Hawks, 55-7, Friday night in Greenwood.
The long drive to Greenwood slowed the Warriors down early in the game keeping them off the board until 3:46 left in the first quarter but by the end of the first quarter the Warriors would have a 21-0 lead.
The Warriors explosive offense was led by Michael Minges with 135 yards passing with two touchdowns adding 80 yards rushing with two touchdowns, Tyreke Toomer caught three passes all going for touchdowns totaling 145 yards and Diaz Alexander picked up 130 yards rushing with two touchdowns.
Wide receiver Bryan Davis took over the quarterbacking duties in the second half with the clock running without stoppage going two for three passing for 45 yards and two touchdowns.
The Warrior defense led by Luke Price, Walt Bailey, Garret Collins and Michael Minges held the Hawks to 163 yards of total offense.
Alexander picked up the Warriors first touchdown on a 15 yard run with 3:46 left in the first quarter. Gage Bazemore’s point after kick put the Warriors up 7-0. With 36 seconds left in the first quarter, Minges hit Toomer with a 29 yard touchdown strike. Bazemore’s kick upped the Warrior lead to 14-0. The Hawks got some good field position following the kickoff but sent a pass down field that was intercepted by Minges and returned 60 yards for a touchdown. Bazemore’s kick split the uprights to give the Warriors a 21-0 with 14 seconds left in the quarter with the quarter ending with this score. On the Warriors first possession of the second quarter they were backed up to their own ten yard line following some penalties. Minges made a quick pass to Toomer who would out run the Hawks defenders going 90 yards for the touchdown. Bazemore upped the Warrior lead to 28-0 with 8:01 left in the second quarter. On the Warriors next possession Minges finished the drive on a 32 yard touchdown run. The point after kick by Bazemore increased the Warrior lead to 35-0 with 6:31 left in the second quarter. The Hawks were aided by some penalties and a bit of luck with Hawks quarterback Will Rooney throwing a pass that was deflected into the arms of tight end Grant Vickery for a touchdown. Jacob Bentley added the point after to close the Warrior lead to 35-7 with 4:54 left in the second quarter. Alexander would finish the Warriors final drive of the first half with a 12 yard touchdown run. The conversion failed holding the Warriors to a 41-7 lead with 1:48 left in the second quarter with the first half ending with this score.
The second half was played with the clock running without stoppage to hold down the scoring. Bryan Davis hit Toomer with a 25 yard touchdown pass with 8:46 left in the third quarter. Bazemore’s kick increased the Warrior lead to 48-7.
The third quarter would end with this score. With 11:01 left in the fourth quarter, Davis was chased out of the pocket breaking some tackles until he found Corbin Wethington free and hit him for a twenty yard touchdown pass. Bazemore added the final point of the game to give the Warriors the 55-7 win. The win puts the Warriors to 4-0.
On offense for the Warriors, Minges was 4 of 6 passing for 135 yards and two touchdowns, had 80 yards rushing with two touchdowns, Toomer caught three passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns, Alexander had 130 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns and caught a pass for six yards, Bryan Davis was 2 of 3 passing for 45 yards and two touchdowns adding 31 yards on 3 carries, Corbin Wethington caught a 20 yard touchdown pass, Garret Collins had nine yards on three carries, Gage Bazemore had three yards on two carries and was 7 of 8 in point after attempts, Luke Price caught a pass for nine yards and Daniel Camp picked up three yards rushing. On defense, Luke Price had 8 tackles, 4 assists, Walt Bailey had 5 tackles, 4 assists, Garret Collins, 4 tackles, 4 assists, Michael Minges and Hamilton Hodges had 4 tackles, 3 assists each with Minges added an interception returned 60 yards for a touchdown, Jared Ivey had 2 tackles 2 assists, Bryan Davis, Jackson Wolfe, Daniel Camp, Jared Darmon, Jacob Dubose, Samuel Coleman and Evan Paul each had a tackle with two assists. The Warriors put their 4-0 record on the line Friday night as they travel to Williamsburg Academy with game time set for 7:30.
