In the spring this year Mayor Todd Davis initiated a contest for the beautification of the four corners of Harmon Park.
Two groups each submitted a plan. They were judged by Clemson Agents Tony Melton and Justin Ballew. As there were no other submissions, each group agreed to take two corners each.
The Dillon First Baptist Church under the direction of Michael Sapp, Associate Pastor of Students and Cross Roads Ministries. Their corners featured a custom logo design based on the city’s logo and the state symbol with the state logo. The plant material consisted of dwarf boxwoods, English Lavender, lantana, dwarf azaleas, knockout rose bush, hostas and daylilies.
The volunteers are: Michael and Brandy Sapp, Craig and Cheryl Townsend, Hunter and Reagan Jordan, Chris Dove, Jerry Coward, Daniel Khalil, Amanda Williams, Katelyn Huth, Dawson Dove, Currie Bethea, Taylor Humphrey, Trevor Norris, Matthew Fitzgibbon, Hannah Hyatt, Jordan Coward, and Bryan Davis.
The second group was the Yellow Jessamine Garden Club. The Harmon Park Committee is Mildred Mishue, Diane Pittman and Mary Ricks. The corners each feature a yellow bird house and flowers consisting of Candy Tuff, lantana, Rose, Gardenia, Lorapedlum, Yellow Jessamine and Butterfly Bush.
Each one of the members take turns watering and weeding.
They are President Mildred Mishue, Vice-President Mary Ricks, Secretary Judy Powell, Treasurer Cathy McDaniel, Assistant Treasurer Frances Tyler, Chaplain Helen Prevatte, Catherine Price, Dianne Pittman, Melissa Moody, Judy Wyman, Janet Keaton, Shirley Gundry, Glenda Campbell, Earline Moody, and LaRue Bracey.
Now that the corners have been up and flourishing since April 30th, the city is especially proud of the care these two groups have taken to enhance the park.
