To the Editor:
In response to the “Woman Responds to Ad”: Mrs. McAllister, I didn’t see the ad you are referring to, but I do agree we are NOT dumb; we have smart, caring, intelligent people in Dillon County.
However, please allow me to express my thoughts about your comments. You refer to people as fools; how smart is that? But, you do say Mr. Pernell would still help them. Also, you say Mr. Pernell didn’t make this town or the sheriff department corrupt, but you seek their votes.
Do you really believe everyone who ate Mr. Hulon’s food and grinned in his face voted for him? You also seem to wonder who Mr. Hulon is, referring to him as not making it rain or sunshine, that’s God. Well, I have known Mr. Hulon and his wonderful family since he was a little boy. And Mr. Hulon knows who God is, and he serves him every day. He is a faithful Christian, loving husband, son and father. He is hardworking, honest and dependable for everyone in Dillon County, not just a select few.
I don’t know Mr. Pernell and I’m not disagreeing with you at all about him and what he stands for. But if you want to really find out what a person is all about, give them a rope and they usually hang themselves, like you did. You call people fools; please refer to Matt. 5 Verse 22 which states to call someone a fool you shall be in danger of hellfire. Also, you have insulted people but still think you should get their vote. And you don’t expect people to look at the ones of whom you associate!
I respectfully agree we need to get over the grudging and animosity all across this country. But don’t expect to have it both ways, either you are a Christian, and stand for what it means or you’re not! Which are you?
And you don’t blame one person for all the problems in our county, maybe you need to consider the judges and lawmakers for having a real part here, too. I think you and your family know firsthand about this. I suggest we need to support, not teardown, what the Lord has given us. I truly am grateful that we have wonderful Christian people that we can trust and we should all stand behind them.
Respectfully Submitted,
Betty Cook
