Troop 761 took a fun and educational four-day trip to Washington, DC on Father’s Day weekend.
One of the most important things that they learned was that freedom comes with a price. They visited Arlington Cemetery where they saw the changing of the guards and laying of the wreaths as well as some of the graves of the noble people who are laid to rest there. Many of the Smithsonian museums, Holocaust museum and Marine Corps museum, “Quantico,” were especially impactful on the scouts along with the WWII Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, and Korean Memorial. They also found the monument/statue representing the Boy Scouts of America. They went up into the Washington monument. They learned about the founding of the country and founding fathers and their strong faith and values. In last two month, they have hiked the Palmetto Trail, zip-lined the highest and fastest zip-line course on east coast which is the gorge located in Saluda, NC and toured Washington, DC. Leaders were Kevin Bailey, Tim Fitzgibbon, and Douglas Lynn. The dads were Ray Stephens and Jack Ross. The scouts were Mason Bailey, Mathew Fitzgibbon, William Lynn, Mason Ross, John Rourke, Ryan Stephens, William Byrd, and Gabe Sherman. (Contributed Photos)
