Dear Editor:
Why did Mr. Wil Brown misinterpret and twist Mr. Michael Goings’ article regarding the massacre in Orlando?
I was deeply concerned after reading Mr. Wil Brown’s letter to you about the commentary Mr. Michael Goings’ wrote. Therefore, I did a comparison between Mr. Brown’s letter and Mr. Goings’ commentary. I did not find any statements that Mr. Brown made concerning Mr. Goings’ article to be true. In fact, Mr. Goings’ opened his commentary condemning the shooter and the very act of hate.
I have known Mr. Goings for many years; he serves as my pastor. I know he is like me and so many others, not perfect. However, I have never heard this man teach or preach hate or even demonstrate hate towards anyone. I can recall numerous times Brishop Goings has gone above and beyond the call of duty to show forth love.
I believe that sometimes things can be misinterpreted; therefore, I hope this is the case with Mr. Brown. If not, then Mr. Brown needs to know that people should not make statements such as the ones he stated, calling someone names such as “bigot” and “idiot” without knowing the person. If this is in fact Mr. Brown’s demeanor, he needs to be ashamed of himself. It is a disgrace because Mr. Goings has over the years stood up and shared his views of biblical issues that are in conflict with other people’s views far and near.
It is my opinion that the scripture in 2 Timothy 3:12 are fitting here: “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Also, it is my opinion that it is absurd for Mr. Brown to think that Mr. Goings is homophobic. Mr. Goings, who has over 40 years of biblical knowledge and understanding, can trace the LGBT lifestyle back to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.
I want to thank The Dillon Herald for allowing columnists like Mr. Michael Goings, Mr. Carley Wiggins, and others for informing and enlightening the community of historical events and life issues. I am sure that The Dillon Herald will not lose any sales, as long as positive people continue to write and inform the community.
