A new bridge will be built on Highway 301 North in Dillon at Kentyre Road, and work is underway to make that happen. The goal is to also straighten the intersection at Kentyre Road and hopefully eliminate some of the accidents that occur there, according to Eugene Parnell of SCDOT. There have been some delays in the work due to the rain causing an increase in the water and making it more difficult to get the trees cleared. The contractor is planning to close the bridge once school gets out; however, a specific date has not yet been set. It will be reopened before school begins. Motorists will have to detour during that time. The date the bridge will be closed will be announced prior to the closing. Currently, motorists may experience temporary lane closures, but everything is being done to keep travelers safe.
