The Glove and Trowel Garden Club recently completed their downtown beautification project.
This project consisted of planting around the fountain with red and pink Drift Roses and Lorepetalum, the planters at the train depot with Crippsi Cypress and Lorepetalum and the bed around the urn with Dixieland Grass and red Sasanqua called “Yuletide.”
The planters around the trees on the MacArthur Avenue side of the depot and the planters on the Railroad Avenue side were all planted with Liriope.
Pansies will also be planted around the urn every fall and switched out in the spring as a continuing project.
Chairpersons for this project, Linda Dutton and Julie LeChette, worked with Amy Taylor Wells from Florence on the selection of the plants and their proper planting and care.
The club would like to thank Maggie Riales, Revitalization Coordinator and Burt Rogers and his crew with the City of Dillon Street Department for their help completing this project. The Glove and Trowel Garden Club is a member of the National Council of Garden Clubs, Inc., the South Atlantic Region of National Council, the Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc., and the Coastal District, GCSC.
