As evidence of the high quality of care provided at McLeod Dillon, multiple patient care awards have been recently awarded to the medical center.
McLeod Dillon was presented with three of the South Carolina Certified Zero Harm Awards in April, 2015 during the 8th Annual SC Transforming Health Symposium for sustaining zero harm in Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections in its ICU, Surgical Site Infections in Hip Replacements, and Surgical Site Infections in Knee Replacements.  These recognitions are given when a hospital reaches the milestone of zero infections within a defined, consecutive period. The infection data are independently verified by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). In total, McLeod Health facilities received thirteen Zero Harm awards.
The award is part of the SC Hospital Association’s efforts to guide and support the state’s hospitals in creating and sustaining highly reliable health care—meaning patient care that is dependable, high quality, and safe over a long period of time, similar to results achieved by other high-consequence industries such as aviation and nuclear power.
McLeod Dillon was also recognized for providing excellence in healthcare by national healthcare research leader Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC). McLeod Dillon received a 5-Star Award in Inpatient Services for Communication about Medications.  The award was presented during PRC’s 2015 Excellence in Healthcare Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 31 – June 2, 2015. Overall, McLeod Health facilities received eight awards are the event.
For 15 years, PRC’s annual Excellence in Healthcare Conference has brought together hundreds of healthcare leaders to focus on transforming the patient experience. The awards recognize organizations and individuals who achieve excellence throughout the year by improving patient experiences, healthcare employee engagement and/or physician alignment and engagement based on surveys of their patients.
McLeod Health facilities received eight PRC patient satisfaction awards in total.  “McLeod Health hospitals and physicians are incredibly deserving of these National Excellence in Healthcare Awards,” said Joe M. Inguanzo, Ph.D., President and CEO of PRC. “McLeod Health is committed to driving improved scores and making their hospitals a better place to work, a better place to practice medicine and a better place for patients to be treated. It takes true dedication, determination and hard work to achieve this level of excellence in healthcare.”
At the August 26, 2015, SC Hospital Association annual Preventing Avoidable Readmissions Together (PART) statewide meeting, McLeod Dillon was recognized for achieving a 20% or more relative improvement rate in hospital readmissions for AMI and COPD for a consecutive year.  As a system, McLeod Health facilities received five PART recognitions for preventing avoidable readmissions.
PART is a quality improvement collaborative among health care professionals that are working to keep patients who live with certain chronic diseases safe and comfortable in their homes after discharge.  Through PART educational resources are available for providers across the state, along with opportunities to share experiences, innovations and best practices. More than 200 hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, home health and other organizations have participated.
Established in 2012, PART is led by the South Carolina Hospital Association, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Health Sciences South Carolina and the state’s Medicare quality organization, The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence.
According to the SC Hospital Association, 5,031 avoidable hospital readmissions have been prevented in South Carolina since the collaborative began.
