The Dillon Wildcats hit on all cylinders Friday night to completely dominate the Waccamaw Warriors in a 58-0 whitewashing. The Warriors didn’t get to the 50 yard line, but on one occasion in the second quarter they made it to their own 45 as a result of an off side penalty that gave them their only first down in the first half. They finished the game with just one more on a 16 yard run by Darnell Floyd on their first possession of the fourth quarter. The Wildcat defense allowed minus 17 yards on 22 rushing plays and none through the air.
While the defense was taking care of the Warrior running backs, the offensive line for the Wildcats were opening large holes for the likes of Jamison “Chap” Chapman and Daeshawn Davis. Chapman carried the football 16 times for 120 yards and Davis carried twice, and both were for touchdowns. Chapman reeled off four six pointers in a row, including a 37 yard jaunt for the first score in the second quarter. Davis would later catch a 12 yard scoring toss from Avery to give him three touchdowns on the evening.
In addition to rushing for 120 yards, Chapman caught four passes for another 112 giving him 232 yards in total offense. Newcomer Quadric McDuffie added 49 yards and the final touchdown of the game.
The Wildcat defense gave the Cats a 2-0 lead when McCall successfully punted a ball that landed at the one yard line of the Warriors. On first down, Jermaine McDaniel tackled running back Kevin Gasque in the end zone. It was McDaniel’s second safety this season.
Waccamaw was forced to free kick and the Wildcats marched 56 yards in eight plays with Davis running out of the “Wildcat” formation from 12 yards and Drew Covington was successful with the first of six consecutive PATs to give the Cats a 9-0 lead.
A 60-yard punt return DeKentric “Skeeter” to the Waccamaw 5 set up the next score which came just two minutes later. Again out of the Wildcat, Davis was in the end zone and Covington’s kick put the Cats up, 16-0, with 2:16 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Before the dust could settle, Kelton Grant fumbled the ensuing kick off at the Warrior 27 and after a 19 yard pass from McCall to Diaz Alexander, Chapman scored his first of four consecutive touchdowns to give the Cats a 23-0 lead with a minute and a half left in the first quarter.
On the first play of the 2nd quarter, Waccamaw punter Domini Gullo’s kick sailed out of bounds for just 14 yards. Following an incomplete pass to KaNore McKinnon, Chapman scored again on his 37 yard run for a 30-0 lead. Just a little over a minute later, Skeeter Graves picked off his fifth interception of the season returning it 25 yards for a first down at the Warrior 11 yard line. Dillon was penalized for an ineligible receiver down field and a play later, Waccamaw was whistled for pass interference giving the Cats a first down at the eight. From there, it was Chapman for his third TD of the game and a 37-0 lead.
The Wildcats put one more score on the board before intermission with a 41 yard drive on eight plays with Chapman going the final 2 yards for a 44-0 lead at the 2 minute mark of the first half.
With the stadium clock running continuously, McCall hit on three of four passes to Alexander, Chapman and Davis with the latter going into the end zone from 12 yards. Reserve kicker Ahmed Dawad was perfect with the point after and the Cats scored the final touchdown with less than a minutes to go in the game when reserve running back Quadric McDuffie took six straight handoffs from Austin Moody for 49 yards and the first touchdown of his high school career.
In watching the game film, the Dillon running backs ran in behind blockers J. T. Melton, Harley Mincey, Dawson Dove and Poppy Sealey who made plenty of room for big gains.
The Wildcats picked up 188 yards rushing a added 187 yards through the air to account for 375 yards in total offense, while the defensive unit was holding the Warriors to minus 17 yards and nothing from the passing game. Quarterback Jack Floyd threw only one pass and it was the one picked off by Graves.
Next week, the Cats will be idle because of the flooding a couple of weeks ago. The opponent will not be determined until the rescheduled games are played this coming week.
