The students at Latta Middle School recently participated in various STEM-related workshops led by Retha Kelly-Horne and Dana Wright from ScienceSouth.
ScienceSouth is located in Florence, but its team members will travel to local schools to conduct workshops and assemblies.
Its mission is to advance scientific understanding and increase the competitiveness of future generations in all areas of science.
These workshops were made possible through a Duke Energy grant that was awarded to Latta Middle School in April 2015.
The 6th grade students experimented with circuitry by making their very own circuits during their workshop. The 5th, 7th and 8th grade students explored the importance of scientific inquiry as they used the scientific method to solve a bridge design project.
The students will also participate in several upcoming ScienceSouth assembly shows this school year.
The assembly shows will be held in the Ellis Performing Arts Center (EPAC) and will include Scales and Tails, the Weather Show, and To Infinity and Beyond.
The Latta Middle School students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed each workshop and look forward to more STEM exploration!
