Lake View earned a 5-1 win over Conway last week to earn a trip to the Junior Legion state baseball tournament in Inman, SC, but fell to Aiken and Florence over the weekend.

Lake View’s Jordan King got the win on the mound against Conway, giving up just one hit and one run in three innings. Timmy Fielder pitched three innings and gave up one hit, and Brent Herlong closed, pitching one inning with no hits.

At bat for Lake View, Connor Anderson went 4-for-4; Justin Elliott went 3-for-4; Deonte Bridgett went 2-for-5; and Darius Ford went 1-for-4.

In other Junior Legion action, Johnsonville defeated Aynor 11-5 to advance to the state tournament, with Grant Davis getting the win on the mound and Austin Cox getting the save.

Cox went 3-for-4 at bat for Johnsonville, Lee Daniel went 3-for-5, and Daylen Powell went 2-for-4.

Florence Post 1 also won their series against South Florence Blue, dropping game two but earning a 6-4 win in game three on Wednesday.

Dustin Williams got the win on the mound, pitching seven innings for four runs, eight hits, one walk, and two outs. Will Hardee took the loss, pitching two innings for three hits, three runs, one walk, and two outs.

Ryan Florio led Post 1 at bat, going 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI, and one run, also reaching on a walk. Zay Paul led South Florence Blue, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.

Lake View, Johnsonville, Florence Post 1, and top-seeded Marlboro were set to represent the lower state in the Junior Legion tournament which began on Saturday, July 18.

Lake View took on Aiken in their first game of the state tournament and fell 4-1.

Brent Herlong took the loss on the mound, pitching five innings for one out, five hits, and two errors. Nick Collins pitched two innings for one hit and two outs.

At bat, Connor Anderson went 3-for-3 for Lake View and Deonte Bridgett went 2-for-3.

Brian Melvin pitched five innings to get the win for Aiken, and Braxton Copley got the save.

On Sunday, Lake View faced elimination against Florence Post 1, who fell 3-2 to Greenwood on Saturday.

Lake View fell 11-1 on Sunday as Post 1 advanced. Jordan King took the loss on the mound.

Brent Herlong led Lake View at bat, going 2-for-3; Tommy Felder and Jordan King each went 1-for-2; and Deonte Bridgett went 1-for-3.

Johnsonville and Marlboro also took first round losses and faced each other in an elimination bracket game on Sunday. Johnsonville fell 3-1 to Rock Hill and Marlboro fell 6-5 to Inman in the first round, but Marlboro earned a 12-2 win on Sunday to stay alive in the bracket.

In the winners bracket, Aiken defeated Greenwood 4-2 and host team Inman defeated Rock Hill 13-4.

The state tournament was scheduled to continue on Monday night with Inman facing Aiken in the winners bracket and the rest facing elimination, with Florence taking on Rock Hill and Marlboro set to face Greenwood. The tournament is expected to continue through Thursday, July 23.
