After earning a 20-0 win over Timmonsville on Monday night, Lake View’s Wild Gators joined Dillon and Latta in competing in district title games in the SCHSL playoffs on Wednesday night.
Both Dillon and Latta went undefeated in the first two rounds to advance to host their district baseball championships. Wednesday’s winners will advance to the first round of the lower state playoffs on Saturday, May 9.
Here’s a look at the Class A and Class 2A baseball playoffs heading into Wednesday’s games.
Class A
After falling 6-3 to Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Saturday in the second round of the District V playoffs, Lake View shut down the Timmonsville Whirlwinds 20-0 in three innings on Monday night with Nick Collins and Peyton Cox combining for the shut out on the mound.
At bat for the Gators, Weston Rogers and Josh Price each went 2-for-3 and Justin Elliott and Brent Herlong each went 2-for-2.
The Wild Gators were set to travel to Bamberg-Ehrhardt to take on the Red Raiders on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Lake View has to win twice to claim the Class A, District V title.
In District VI, the Region 6-A champ, Charleston Charter, defeated Bethune-Bowman 18-1 in the first round but fell 14-2 to Hannah-Pamplico in round two. The Raiders defeated Carvers Bay 3-1 on Thursday, and the Bears eliminated Bethune and Charleston in the elimination bracket to earn a shot at the district title. Carvers Bay had to defeat Hannah-Pamplico twice to advance.
In District VII, East Clarendon defeated Green Sea-Floyds in round one and defeated Cross 13-1 in round two to advance to the district title game. Cross defeated Allendale-Fairfax in round one, and Green Sea knocked off Allendale in the first elimination game before defeated Cross 19-4 on Monday to earn a shot at the title. The Trojans were set to face the Wolverines on Wednesday and needed two wins to advance.
In District VIII, the Latta Vikings were set to host Branchville at 5:30 p.m. Latta defeated Branchville 7-0 in the second round on Saturday, but Branchville eliminated Military Magnet 11-0 on Monday for a shot at the district title. Latta only needed one win to advance.
In the upper state brackets, District I saw Fox Creek shut out Greer MC 10-0 and Lamar 1-0 to advance to the title game. Greer eliminated Wagener-Sally 14-5, and Lamar knocked off Greer 9-0 to advance to the title game.
In District II, defending state champ St. Joseph’s fell 4-3 to Ware Shoals in round one, and Ware Shoals fell to Lewisville in round two. St. Joseph’s eliminated Calhoun County on Saturday, and took out Ware Shoals 9-3 on Monday night to advance. Lewisville was set to host St. Joseph’s, who needed two wins on Wednesday to advance to the lower state.
In District III, McBee defeated Williston-Elko 11-1 on Thursday and defeated Southside Christian 6-0 on Saturday to advance. Dixie fell 2-0 to Southside in round one, but eliminated Williston 19-0 on Saturday and took out Southside 8-7 on Monday to advance.
In District IV, Great Falls took down Region 5-A champ Ridge Spring-Monetta in round one but fell to Christ Church in round two as Christ Church advance to the district championship. Ridge Spring defeated Whitmire 13-9 on Saturday and eliminated Great Falls 10-4 on Monday to stay alive in the playoffs.
CLASS 2A
In Class 2A, District VIII, the Dillon Wildcats were set to host Academic Magnet on Wednesday for the district title. The Wildcats earned a 9-7 come-from-behind win on Saturday in their first meeting, and the Raptors edged ahead of Woodland 5-4 on Monday to stay alive in the playoffs. The Raptors needed to win twice to take the title from Dillon.
In District VII, Aynor defeated Johnsonville 6-3 in round one and shut out Edisto 4-0 in round two to advance to the title game. Johnsonville defeated Battery Creek on Saturday, but Edisto edged Johnsonville 10-9 on Monday night to advance.
In District VI, Bishop England earned a 9-0 win over Wade Hampton and a 12-2 win over last year’s lower state champ, Loris, to advance. Loris defeated Timberland 7-0 in round one, but the Wolves stayed alive with a 1-0 win over Wade Hampton and defeated Loris 7-5 on Tuesday night for a shot at the district title.
In District V, Waccamaw defeated Andrews and Barnwell to advance to the title game. Barnwell defeated Whale Branch in the first round, and Andrews knocked off Whale Branch on Saturday before falling 6-1 to Barnwell on Monday. Waccamaw was set to host Barnwell on Wednesday night.
In the upper state, Blacksburg defeated Buford 2-0 in round two of the District IV playoffs but Buford eliminated Batesburg-Leesville 7-1 to earn a shot at the title.
In District III, Mid-Carolina defeated Strom Thurmond 9-5 in round two, but Strom Thurmond eliminated Powdersville 5-3 on Monday to earn a title shot.
In District II, 2014 state champ Ninety Six defeated Pendleton 4-3 and Newberry 4-1 to advance to the title game. Cheraw fell 1-0 to Newberry in round one, but defeated Pendleton 8-3 on Saturday and eliminated Newberry 6-2 on Monday to advance.
In District I, Abbeville defeated Region 1 champ Woodruff in round one, but fell 4-1 to Andrew Jackson in round two. Woodruff knocked off Pelion 11-5 on Saturday but fell 3-2 to Abbeville on Monday as Abbeville advanced to face Andrew Jackson for the district title.
