Through the aid of the Public Works Administration, the Dillon High School has secured a new gymnasium, auditorium, classrooms, a home economics department, and the remodeling of the old building.
The cost of the additional building was $90,000.  This is a small sum for the beautiful, new building we have obtained.
“Joined to the right of the old building is the auditorium, equipped with a special heating system.  The stage has been worked out with unusual care in order to provide adequate space, beauty, and acoustics.  The main floor will seat 774 and the balcony 266.  The windows are going to be draped with heavy dark draperies.  At the back of the balcony are the commercial classrooms, equipped with 17 typewriters and ten new ones.  Downstairs to the right of the entrance is the High Life office and to the left is the Music Room equipped with all fixtures to make it a complete studio.  “Our new building is one of the most up-to-date buildings in the State.  It is one of which we are all proud and are going to do our best to make it the best school in the State.”
The above is a portion of an article that appeared in the high school newspaper ‘Dillon High Life’ dated October 16, 1936 just prior to its official opening of the auditorium.  The school leaders, students and the people of Dillon could not believe their good fortune of having such a treasure in our small town.   With the opening of the auditorium, the commitment to take care of it was made for future generations of Dillon.
Members of the Dillon Historical School Foundation solicit your support in the renovation of the auditorium and its re-opening for our community.  Our next meeting is at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 5 in the conference room of the Chamber of Commerce.   Join us.
