The Dillon Christian School Warriors earned a 9-5 win over the Marlboro Academy Dragons on Wednesday night in varsity baseball action.
The Warriors picked up two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead and added two more in the third to go ahead 4-0. The Dragons scored four runs in the top of the fourth to tie things up, but the Warriors picked up three more runners in the bottom of the inning for a 7-4 lead. Marlboro added one more run in the top of the fifth, but the Warriors added two runs in the bottom of the sixth, holding off the Dragons in the seventh to seal the win at 9-5.
Landry Collins earned the win on the mound for the Warriors, pitching four innings for five hits, four runs, one earned, one walk, and one hit by pitch, striking out one. Jared Darmon also pitched three innings for the Warriors, giving up one hit, one run, one earned run, two triples, and one walk, striking out four.
At bat for the Warriors, Collins went 3-for-3 with one RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs scored; Thomas Evans went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and one run, also hitting a sacrifice fly; Ellison Rourke went 2-for-4 with for a triple and a double, three RBI, two stolen bases, and one run and also reached on an error; Nick Smith went 1-for-1; Jake Boykin went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and four runs scored, also reaching on a hit by pitch and getting a fielder’s choice hit; Ethan Shackelford reached on two walks; and Connor Hamilton scored one run on a hit by pitch.
In the field, Garrett Collins made six put outs; Hamilton made four; Rourke, 3; Landry Collins, 2; and Boykin and Shackelford each made one. Isaac Hendrix made four assists, and Nichols Evans made two.
The Warriors had nine hits and two errors in the win.
Dillon Christian wrapped up the regular season with a 4-7-3 overall record and a 1-5 record in SCISA Region 3-2A.
The Warriors were scheduled to travel to face Robert E. Lee Academy on Monday night in a double header in the first round of the SCISA Class 2A baseball playoffs. If the Warriors split the double header, they will host a tie-breaker game tonight at 5:00 p.m.
