Latta’s Lady Vikings earned a 16-5 win over the Lamar Silver Foxes on the road on Thursday night in varsity softball action.

Lamar took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but Latta tied things up with a run in the top of the second. Lamar briefly took a 2-1 lead, scoring a runner in the bottom of the inning, but a 10-run third inning for the Lady Vikings left Latta ahead 11-2. Both teams picked up three runners in the fourth inning, and Latta capped the win with two runs in the top of the fifth.

On the mound for the Vikings, Dori Webster pitched one and two-thirds innings for one hit, one walk, and three outs; Kurstin Hopkins pitched one and a third innings for one hit, two runs, two earned runs, one wild pitch, and two walks; Casey Prescott pitched one inning for one hit, three runs, two earned runs, two walks, one wild pitch, and two outs; and Arica Gandy pitched one inning for one walk and one out.

Lamar’s D. Low pitched all five innings for the Silver Foxes, giving up 14 hits and 16 runs with one walk and one out.

At bat for the Vikings, Genesis Anderson went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, four RBI, and two runs scored; Maddy Long went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs; Kurstin Hopkins went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs, also getting a fielder’s choice hit; Kyra Grant went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a stolen base, and two runs, also reaching on an error; Camryn Sawyer went 1-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a stolen base, and two runs, also reaching on error; Macy Hyatt went 1-for-4 for a triple with two RBI, also reaching on an error; Kaleigh Caulder went 1-for-4 with one run; Dori Webster went 1-for-3, also reaching on two errors; Casey Prescott scored one run with one RBI; Arica Gandy scored two runs; Brooke Carter went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored, also getting a fielder’s choice hit; and D’Anna Tanner had one stolen base. Latta had 14 hits and one error in the win.

For Lamar, H. Anderson went 1-for-2 for a triple with three RBI and one run scored, also reaching on a walk; J. Freeman went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, also reaching on walk; D. Low reached on an error with one stolen base and had a fielder’s choice hit; C. Copeland went 1-for-1 with one run scored, also reaching on a hit by pitch, and was caught stealing; M. Cribb reached on a hit by pitch; N. Amerson reached on a hit by pitch and picked up one RBI; E. Mack reached on a walk; and A. Windham reached on two walks for one run scored. Lamar had three hits and six errors in the effort.

Latta improved to 22-4 overall and has already claimed the Region 8-A title with an undefeated 8-0 record.

On Monday, the Lady Vikings were scheduled to face Dillon, and this Thursday, Latta will host the first round of the Class A District VIII softball playoffs against the fourth place Region finisher.
