The Dillon Wildcats fell 2-0 to the Aynor Blue Jackets on the road on Tuesday.
Neither team could score until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Aynor’s Lawton Hood led off with a single. After Ridge Richardson flew out, Andrew Lovell reached on a hit by pitch but went out on a fielder’s choice from Jackson Woodle. With runners on first and third, Josh Page singled to score Hood and Ian Prosser and Nick Fowler singled to bring in Woodle before Austin Hucks flew out to end the inning with a 2-0 Blue Jacket lead.
The Wildcats got their only hit of the night in the top of the seventh when Duncan Callahan singled, but with two outs, Blake Deese hit into a fielder’s choice to put Callahan out on the way to second and end the game.
Nick Fowler got the win on the mound of Aynor, pitching a complete game for just one hit and two walks, striking out five. Austin Moody took the loss for the Wildcats, pitching six innings for six hits, two runs, two earned runs, two walks, one hit by pitch, and three outs.
At bat for Aynor, Nick Fowler went 2-for-3 with one RBI; Josh Page went 1-for-3 with one RBI; Lawton Hood went 1-for-2 with one run scored; Caleb Nobles went 1-for-3; Ian Prosser went 1-for-3; and Jackson Woodle scored one run with two fielder’s choice hits.
For the Wildcats, Duncan Callahan was 1-for-3; Blake Deese had a fielder’s choice hit; Kaleb Page reached on error; Patrick Herring drew a walk; Andrew Rowell had one stolen base while running for Herring; and Gunnar Grossetti drew a walk.
Dillon slips to 8-6 in the regular season and 7-2 in Region 8-2A.
The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to Marion this Friday at 6:30 p.m. to wrap up region play. The Class 2A baseball playoffs are set to begin on Thursday, April 30.
