Coach Kelly Williamson
Latta’s Kelly Williamson has resigned as head football coach for the Latta Vikings after four seasons with the team.

Williamson, who has been serving as the interim girls basketball coach at West Brunswick in Shallote, North Carolina, since January, will be taking a position at another school. West Brunswick currently has an opening for a football coach after Bob Hanna departed earlier this month.

Williamson rebuilt the Vikings football program and led the the Vikings to a 16-26 record over the last four seasons including back-to-back playoff appearances in the last two seasons. He earned Class A Lower State Coach of the Years in 2013 when he led the Vikings to a 7-3 record, the most wins the school had earned in a single season since 2002.

During his time with the Vikings, Williamson also coached two Division I recruits, most notably Donell Stanley. Stanley was a four-star prospect who was a Shrine Bowl selection, US Army All-American Bowl selection, and a finalist for the South Carolina “Mr. Football” award. He joined the Gamecocks in 2014 but was redshirted and did not practice for much of the season due to surgery on his left wrist. He recently received the Everyday Effort Award at USC’s Spring Game Awards.

Williamson’s son, Kel, also signed on to play at Navy earlier this year. Kel was an All-Region and All-State selection.

Williamson began his coaching career as an assistant to Jackie Hayes at Dillon High School in 1994. He was the first coach of the Dillon Christian School Warriors in 2002 and guided them to one lower state title and two state championships.
