Latta’s Lady Vikings earned a 13-0 win over the Lamar Silver Foxes at home on Wednesday night in varsity softball action.
After a scoreless first inning, Latta took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third as Kaleigh Caulder reached on an error, stole second, and advanced on a single from Dori Webster before scoring on a throwing error. Webster advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Genesis Anderson and went to third on a grounder from Maddy Long. Kurstin Hopkins singled to score Webster and came in herself on a triple from Camryn Sawyer before Kyra Grant hit a grounder to end the inning.
The Lady Vikings picked up five runners in the third, with Madison Owens hitting a triple with one out. Owens came home on an error, and Caulder singled and stole second before scoring on a grounder from Anderson. Webster reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on Anderson’s grounder, and scored on a single from Long. Hopkins singled to help bring home Long, and scored herself with the help of a single from Sawyer before Grant flew out to end the inning.
Latta capped the win in the fourth with five more runs, with Hyatt leading off with a single and Owens hitting a triple and scoring on an error. Caulder and Webster both reached on errors and crossed home with the help of singles from Anderson and Hopkins. Anderson scored on an error for the final run of the game.
Webster got the win on the mound, pitching four innings for one hit and two outs. Hopkins pitched one inning of relief for one hit and one walk. Lamar’s Low took the loss, pitching four innings for 13 hits, 13 runs, three earned runs, and two outs with one hit by pitch.
At bat for the Vikings, Camryn Sawyer went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a triple; Kurstin Hopkins went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored; Madison Owens went 2-for-3 with two triples, one RBI, and two runs scored; Genesis Anderson went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run; Kaleigh Caulder went 1-for-3 with one RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs scored; Maddy Long went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored; Dori Webster went 1-for-3 with one run; Macy Hyatt went 1-for-3 with one run scored; and Casey Prescott scored two runs with one stolen base while pinch running.
For Lamar, Copeland and Amerson each went 1-for-2 at bat and Henderson hit into a fielder’s choice. The Silver Foxes had two hits and six errors in the effort.
Latta improved to 17-4 overall and holds a 4-0 record in Region 8-A.
The Lady Vikings will be on the road tonight at Lake View at 5:30 p.m. to face their local and regional rival, the Lady Wild Gators.
