Latta’s Lady Vikings jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 13-1 win over Green Sea-Floyds on the road on Tuesday.
Latta picked up five runs in the top of the first inning, with Camryn Sawyer reaching on an error and Kyra Grant hitting a single. Dori Webster and Genesis Anderson both drew walks, and Kaleigh Caulder reached on an error. A grounder from Macy Hyatt and a single from Maddy Long helped bring in the last of the runners for the 5-0 lead.
The Lady Trojans scored their only runner in the bottom of the first, with Jackson reaching on a walk, advancing on an error, and scoring on a single from Hutchinson.
Latta picked up another runner in the top of the third with Caulder reaching on an error, stealing second, advancing to third on a passed ball, and scoring on a grounder from Kurstin Hopkins. In the fourth, the Vikings scored two more runners as Grant and Hyatt reached on singles. Anderson singled in the fifth for one more run, with Madison Owens and Long singling to help bring her in for a 9-1 lead.
The Lady Vikings sealed the win in the sixth inning with Hyatt leading off with a double and Webster and Caulder reached on singles. Anderson drew a walk, but went out on a fielder’s choice from Owens. Long reached on an error and advanced on a fielder’s choice from Brooke Carter before scoring the final run on a double from Sawyer.
Webster got the win on the mound, pitching five innings for four hits, one run, one walk, one hit by pitch, and six outs. Hopkins pitched one inning for no hits and no outs. McDaniels took the loss, pitching six innings for the Trojans for 15 hits, 13 runs, six earned runs, three walks, one wild pitch, and three outs.
Caulder went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one stolen base, and three runs scored at bat for the Vikings, and Sawyer went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and one run scored. Hyatt was 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored; Grant went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one stolen base; Webster went 2-for-3; Long went 2-for-4 with one RBI, one stolen base, and one run; Owens went 1-for-2 with a fielder’s choice, one RBI, one stolen base, and one run scored; Anderson went 1-for-2 with two runs; Hopkins and Carter each picked up one RBI; and D’Anna Tanner scored two runs with a stolen base.
Green Sea’s Hutchinson went 1-for-2 with one RBI; Faulk and Milligan each went 1-for-3; and Elliott went 1-for-1 for a double. McDaniels had two fielder’s choice hits and Faulk had one. The Trojans had four hits and two errors in the effort.
Latta improved to 16-4 overall and 4-0 in Region 8-A.
The Lady Vikings were scheduled to host Lamar on Wednesday night and will be on the road on Tuesday to face rival Lake View at 5:30 p.m.
