Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Elizabeth McCall Davis will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Thursday, March 19, 2015 at New Ebenezer Baptist Church, Florence. Entombment will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. She died on Sunday, March 15, 2015 after an illness.
“Bert,” as she was affectionately called, was born March 28, 1934 in Dillon, SC to Robert, Sr. and Martha Page Townsend-McCall. She attended the public schools of Dillon County and was the Owner and Operator of Davis Dry Cleaners (Latta, SC and Florence, SC) until her retirement.
Bertha was a member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church, Florence, SC. She was also a member of the National Council of Negro Women (Florence), the American Legion Auxiliary (Post 228), and the Improved Benevolence Protective Order Elks of the World (IBPOE of W) Liberty Temple #800, Order of Elks (Life Member).
In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by one daughter, three sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors are: two daughters, Audrey Davis and Dr. Lurma Swinney; one step son, David English; two grandsons, DeQuinton J. Swinney and Andre (Gabriea) Wright; two great grandchildren, Linda and McKenzie Wright; son-in-law, Emanuel Pigatt; two sisters, Evelyn (Willie) Burns and Brenda Robinson; two brothers, Haywood (Tami) McCall and Claywood McCall, Sr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
