The Latta Vikings picked up 10 runs in the top of the first inning against Carvers Bay on Tuesday night in varsity baseball action.
With two outs in the top of the first, Jackson Williams and John Kever Love each reached on a walk, and Eric McGirt reached on an error. Williams scored on a wild pitch, and a single from Dalton Lane brought in Love and put McGirt into position to score on the next play. Singles from Austin Miller, McLeod Carmichael, Noah Moody, and Colby Lee brought in more runs and kept the bases loaded, and Cledus Williams reached on a hit by pitch. A double from Jackson Williams helped to clear the bases, and Williams advanced to third on a single from Love and scored on the next play before McGirt flew out to end the inning.
Those 10 runs were more than enough to seal the win as John Kever Love kept the Bears off the bases, striking out 12 players and getting four to ground out. Only Carvers Bay’s Goode reached based on a dropped third strike in the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth, Latta’s Jonathan Ray reached on a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball, and advanced to third on a grounder but was left stranded.
For the Bears, J. Tindall pitched four innings for three hits, two walks, and one out, and T. Cribb pitched one inning for eight hits, 10 runs, and two walks.
Jackson Williams led the Vikings at bat, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Austin Miller and McLeod Carmichael each went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run; Colby Lee was 1-for-2 with one run; Cledus Williams was 1-for-1; Dalton Lane and Noah Moody each went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run; and Eric McGirt and Jonathan Ray each scored one run. Latta had 11 hits in the win.
Latta is now 4-2-1 on the season. The Vikings will be at Carvers Bay tonight at 5:30 p.m.
