Latta’s Lady Vikings shut out the Green Sea-Floyds Trojans 10-0 on Friday night to open region play in Region 8-A softball action.
The Lady Vikings picked up four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kyra Grant and Camryn Sawyer both singled, but Madison Owens and Macy Hyatt both hit into fielder’s choice plays to get them both out. Owens advanced on a passed ball, and a double from Kaleigh Caulder scored both runners. Caulder stole third as Dori Webster drew a walk, with Genesis Anderson singling to score Caulder. Webster advanced on an error and scored on the next play to put Latta up 4-0 before Kurstin Hopkins struck out to end the inning.
Latta added four more runs in the second, with Grant and Sawyer each singling and Owens reaching on a walk. Grant scored on a passed ball, and Caulder hit a triple to put Latta up 7-0. Webster hit a grounder to score Caulder, and Anderson flew out to end the inning at 8-0.
Owens hit a home run in the fourth for a 9-0 lead, and Latta capped the win with another run in the sixth. Sawyer reached on an error, and Owens and Hyatt each singled with Sawyer scoring on a play to end the game on the mercy rule.
Dori Webster and Arica Gandy split pitching duties, spending three innings each on the mound in the no-hitter. Webster struck out five and Gandy struck out three. Green Sea’s M. Milligan pitched 4.1 innings for eight hits, six runs, five earned runs, one walk, and one out.
At bat for Latta, Kaleigh Caulder went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs scored; Kyra Grant went 3-for-4 with one run; Madison Owens went 2-for-3 with one RBI, a home run, and three runs scored; Camryn Sawyer went 2-for-4 with two runs; Macy Hyatt went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run; Genesis Anderson went 1-for-3 with one RBI and a stolen base; Dori Webster picked up one RBI; and D’Anna Tanner scored one run.
Latta had 12 hits and one error in the win. Green Sea-Floyds had three errors in the effort.
Latta is now 10-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 8-A.
The Lady Vikings will be on the road tonight to face Carvers Bay and will be back at home on Thursday to host Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
