Latta’s Lady Vikings picked up a 6-3 win over Aynor on Friday night and battled Dillon’s Lady Wildcats to a 3-2 win on Tuesday in varsity softball action.

On Friday, Aynor’s M. Elliott opened the game with a home run in the top of the first, but Latta responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning with Kyra Grant reaching on a walk and Camryn Sawyer, Madison Owens, and Macy Hyatt all reaching with singles. Owens advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on an error that allowed Dori Webster to reach first, and Hyatt advanced to third on the error and scored on the next play. Kaleigh Caulder flew out, Genesis Anderson hit into a fielder’s choice, and Maddy Long hit a grounder to end the inning.

Neither team could score again until the bottom of the sixth, when Kurstin Hopkins singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Grant. Sawyer reached on an error, and a single from Hyatt allowed both runners to score for a 6-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh, M. Elliott hit a triple and a single from B. Elliott allowed her to score. B. Elliott stole second and third and came home on a single. H. Page hit into a fielder’s choice for the first out, and L. Johnson hit into a double play that ended the game at 6-3.

Dori Webster earned the win on the mound for Latta, pitching all seven innings for seven hits, three runs, three earned runs, one out, and one homer. Aynor’s M. Elliott took the loss, pitching six innings for 11 hits, six runs, two earned runs, one walk, and one out.

Macy Hyatt led the Vikings at bat, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Camryn Sawyer went 2-for-4 with two runs scored; Kurstin Hopkins went 2-for3 with one run; Dori Webster went 1-for-3 with two RBI; Madison Owens went 1-for-4 with one run; Maddy Long went 1-for-3; Kaleigh Caulder went 1-for-4; Kyra Grant scored one run on a walk; and Casey Prescott scored one run. The Vikings had 11 hits in the win.

At bat for Aynor, M. Elliott went 1-for-3 with a triple, one RBI, and two runs, and B. Elliott went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Aynor had seven hits and two errors in the effort.

On Monday night, the Vikings hosted Dillon’s Lady Wildcats and battled their way to a 3-2 win.

Dillon led off with two runs in the top of the first. Auh’Keria Smiling reached on an error and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Tori Grimsley. A double from Erin Bailey scored Smiling, and an error allowed Brittany Miller to reach and advanced Bailey to third, where she scored on the next play.

Owens singled for Latta in the bottom of the inning, but the Vikings couldn’t get any momentum going against Wildcat pitcher Shaquailla German until the bottom of the fourth. Owens reached on a walk, and Hyatt was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Caulder reached on an error to load the bases, and Owens and Hyatt came in on successive plays. A grounder from Dori Webster gave the Vikings their third run with just one out, but Anderson ground out to third for the second. Long reached on an error and advanced to second, but German struck out Hopkins to end the threat.

The Vikings held off the Wildcats through the top of the fifth, and Webster allowed just two hits in the sixth. With two outs, Bailey and Miller both singled, but Bailey was put out on the way to third to end the inning.

German held off the Vikings in the fifth and sixth innings, striking out Grant to open the fifth. Sawyer reached on a single, but Owens flew out and Hyatt hit into a fielder’s choice to end the inning. In the sixth, Caulder ground out and Webster reached with a single and advanced all the way to third before Anderson and Long flew out to end the threat.

In the top of the seventh, Da’Kerhia Samuel reached on an error and a single from Johnna Rogers advanced her to second. Ashley Phillips flew out, and Webster struck out Tiffany Dwyer before allowing Smiling to reach on an error to load the bases. But Webster got Grimsley to line out to end the game with the Vikings taking the 3-2 win.

Webster got the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings for five hits, two runs, and four outs. German took the loss, pitching six innings for three hits, three runs, two earned runs, two walks, and seven outs.

Webster went 1-for-3 with one RBI to lead Latta at bat. Owens went 1-for-2 with one run; Sawyer went 1-for-3; and Prescott and Caulder each picked up one run. Latta had four errors in the win.

For the Wildcats, Erin Bailey went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI; and Da’Kerhia Samuel, Brittany Miller, and Johnna Rogers each went 1-for-3. Auh’Keria Smiling and Alexia Pinkney picked up Dillon’s runs. The Wildcats had three errors in the effort.

Latta improved to 9-2 on the season while Dillon slipped to 1-1 in the regular season.

Latta will be at home this Friday to host Green Sea Floyds at 5:30 p.m. to open region play.
