In recognition of its 75th anniversary in 2015, Marlboro Electric Cooperative announces a community initiative to help individuals or families with unexpected expenses called, “MEC’s 75 Acts of Kindness.”
A committee of cooperative employees will review requests for the Acts of Kindness and award up to $500 for specific projects or needs to 75 different recipients throughout the year, totaling nearly $40,000. The funding for the initiative will come from MEC’s charity fund-raising events.
“There have been a lot of changes since the creation of Marlboro Electric Cooperative in 1940, but one thing that has not changed is our commitment to the communities we serve,” said Marlboro Electric Cooperative’s President and CEO William L. Fleming, Jr. “We decided that the best way to celebrate our 75 year history is to give back to our community.”
Recipients DO NOT have to be members of the co-op to apply, but must be from Marlboro or Dillon County.
MEC’s 75 Acts of Kindness are not intended for general charity, school or church funds; applicants within established charities must use funds for specific, one-time acts.
Throughout 2015, applications are available at MEC’s office or online at www.MarlboroElectric,coop. Recipients will be selected by a committee of co-op employees and will be notified by mail or phone.
