Taking criminals off the streets and helping those people who need help are two of the reasons that Officer Keywayna Palmer of the Latta Police Department wanted to be a police officer.
Palmer joined the Latta Police Department in March of last year and graduated from the SC Criminal Justice Academy on November 21st.
She said one of the things she loves about her job is that you learn something new every day.
Palmer is a 2007 graduate of Dillon High School, where she graduated early. She joined the military in 2006 serving in the US Army National Guard and was part of the military police. Her mother is an officer at the Dillon County Detention Center.
Palmer is a college graduate and is starting her master’s degree in Homeland Security and Crime Scene Investigation.
She is the mother of a five year-old son.
Palmer said she would like to thank Chief Crystal Moore and Assistant Chief Derrick Cartwright for giving her the opportunity to serve as a police officer and for taking the time to talk to the officers as individuals.
