Several Region 3 teams participated in the SCISA Class AA girls and boys state basketball playoffs this week.
The Dillon Christian School Warriors compete in Region 3-2A, but did not make the state playoffs.
In the girls playoffs, three Region 3 teams were eliminated in the first round on Friday night. Pee Dee Academy fell 71-69 in overtime to Oakbrook Prep; Florence Christian fell 40-35 to Thomas Heyward; and Christian Academy fell 39-22 to Trinity-Byrnes. Palmetto Christian defeated Trinity-Byrnes 59-32 in the second round to advance to the semi-finals.
Marlboro Academy’s Lady Dragons defeated Carolina Academy to advance to the second round on Monday night, where they were scheduled to face Hilton Head Christian.
The Class AA girls semi-finals were scheduled to start tonight at the Sumter Civic Center, with the championship game scheduled for Saturday.
In the boys Class AA playoffs, three Region 3 teams advanced to the second round. Pee Dee Academy defeated The King’s Academy in the first round; Florence Christian knocked off Palmetto Christian; and Christian Academy defeated St. Andrew’s.
Marlboro Academy fell to Hilton Head Prep in the first round as Hilton Head advanced to face Spartanburg Day.
But in round two, the last of the Region 3 teams were eliminated. A last second basket lifted Trinity-Byrnes to a 57-55 win over Christian Academy; Oakbrook Prep eliminated Florence Christian 57-37; and Bethesda Academy defeated Pee Dee Academy 86-62.
The boys semi-finals were scheduled for tonight, with the state championship on Saturday.
