Latta’s Lady Vikings fell 54-50 to Hemingway in the final game of the regular season on Thursday night in girls varsity action.

The Lady Tigers took a narrow 10-9 lead in the first period and widened the gap with an 18-14 second quarter to lead 28-23 at the half. The Vikings rallied for a 12-8 third quarter to close the gap to 36-35. But Hemingway held off the Vikings 18-15 in the fourth to seal the win.

Diamond McFadden led the Lady Bears with a game-high 20 points and Wykasha Space added 13 in the win. Amya Green scored 11; Jenise Davis, 4; Holmes, 2; Elayshia Edwards, 2; and Zasia Thomas, 2.

Latta was led by TaKeria Legette with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Maya Wright earned 14 points and grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds with two assists; Mallory Townsend scored 11 points with 11 rebounds and three assists; Rianna Green scored eight points with two steals and one assist; and Margaret Desser added two points with a rebound and an assist.

The Lady Vikings wrapped up the regular season with a 13-5 overall record. After leading Region 8-A throughout most of the season, Latta finished in second place with an 8-2 record. Carvers Bay claimed the region title with a 9-1 record.

The Vikings were scheduled to host Scott’s Branch in the first round of the 2015 Class A girls basketball playoffs on Monday night. The Lady Eagles finished third in Region 7-A. The winner will face the winner of the Denmark-Olar/Burke game on Thursday, February 19.

Hemingway finished the regular season with a 15-5 record and a 5-3 record in the region for third place. The Lady Tigers were scheduled to travel to Hannah-Pamplico, Region 7-A’s second place team, in the first round of playoffs. The winner will face the winner of the Cross/Allendale-Fairfax game on Thursday.
Carvers Bay was scheduled to host C. E. Murray in the first round of playoffs, with the winner facing either Estill or Charleston Charter in the second round.

Region 8-A’s fourth place team, Green Sea-Floyds, was scheduled to face Timmonsville in the first round. The winner will face either Baptist Hill or Bamberg-Ehrhardt in the round two.

UPDATE: Latta won their first round game against Scott’s Branch 68-40.
